Mates In Mind was so proud to win 'Excellence in Challenging Stigma in the Workplace' at the Inspire Workplace Wellbeing Awards for our "determined approach to tackling mental ill health in the construction industry".

The virtual event, now in its third year, was organised to recognise the efforts made by the top organisations in the UK leading the way for employee wellbeing.

Broadcaster Tara Mills hosted the ceremony, which was sponsored by Bank of Ireland UK.

Sarah Casemore, Managing Director of Mates In Mind said that "being winners of this category where the team and work of Mates in Mind has been recognised by Inspire and MAD is wonderful. We strive every day to breakdown the stigma of mental ill health in workplaces across construction and related industries, working with organisations of all sizes to embrace a positive and proactive model in providing support, training and together making a cultural difference for those who are facing challenges regardless of their role".

Finola O’Kane one of the judges and, Chair of Board of Trustees Inspire Workplaces said that:

“Mates in Mind have been faced with staggering figures around mental ill health and suicide across their sector and they have started thousands of conversations about mental health in building sites, on shop floors, in board rooms and in vans.  They have been breaking stigma and creating a culture where everyone can feel its ok to be themselves.”

The Supporter Programme framework identified 4 core elements and we felt they were strong and prescriptive and designed to deliver success. The fact that you have been able to clearly demonstrate the improvement in the workforce feedback shows the commitment of all involved. The programme is making a different to people’s lives and is opening up conversations that would otherwise remain silent.  Well done and congratulations.”
