Mates in Mind charity is pleased to welcome their new Managing Director, Sarah Casemore.

Sarah has extensive experience working in the public and charity sectors, in addition to 25 years’ experience of working within the NHS. Prior to joining Mates in Mind, Sarah was Director of Operations at Relate, leading the strategic direction and service delivery of relationship counselling across England and Wales.

Steve Hails, Chair of Trustees of Mates in Mind, said:

The trustees are delighted to welcome Sarah Casemore to the charity as managing director and look forward to working with her and the team.

Sarah has a passionate and creative ambition for the future of Mates in Mind ensuring the ongoing support to the industry is enhanced and offers continued value. Her proven track record of delivering strategic objectives and operational leadership in the charitable sector with Relate and the Poppy Factory makes this an exciting appointment for the charity.

“We believe Sarah’s experience and insight will be of great value to Mates in Mind as it continues to grow in support of the industry’s recognition of the imperative to address mental health and wellbeing given the higher rates of suicide amongst construction workers and finishing trades.

“Mates in Mind has continued to extend its reach and now has more than 450 Supporters and partner organisations and is reaching almost half a million people within the construction industry each year.  Our ambitions remain stretching, and we look forward to supporting Sarah in her new role.”

Reflecting on her first month with the charity, Sarah said:

The work and impact that Mates in Mind has achieved since 2017 is really impressive and already having a significant effect in improving both the understanding and importance of mental health in conjunction with the link to wider wellbeing across the construction Industry. The commitment and passion of those working in our team within the charity is clearly recognised through their focussed support to organisations of all sizes on different places in their journey to improve mental health and reduce the stigma across workplaces. I am delighted to join Mates in Mind at such an exciting time to take the charity into the next chapter with such a strong team of subject matter experts. I am looking forward to working with the trustees, my colleagues, as well as partnering organisations and our many supporters across the UK.”

It is clear that Mates in Mind charity has given many in the industry a voice and a clearer direction on what can be achieved through collaboration, but there is still a lot to do to bring this message to those working on the frontline in order that they know how and where to turn if their mental health is being challenged. I look forward to taking our vision forward to ensure that by working with organisations across the construction sector regardless of size, together we will bring about the change needed to promote the importance of proactive and transparent mental health management and encourage open discussions in the workplace."
